Unreasonably dressed Utahns at a Park City Party…

Yesterday, April 18, was the last day Park City Mountain Resort was open. Amidst the 60 degree weather, pro photo shoot, slushy runs, bikinis, and men wearing speedos there were hundreds of  Utah locals having a great time. I’ve never seen so many snowboarders and skiers packed into PC’s two remaining terrain parks, Kings Crown, and Pick-N-Shovel. There were two different crews of riders set up in Pick-N-Shovel barbecuing, chilling on their lawn chairs, and having a good time watching all the action go down.

Many people (from elementary school kids to grandparents) treated it as “gaper” day, and donned costumes, or a lack of costume (bikinis, speedos, 80’s shorts, etc. – I saw this girl wearing a 1-piece swimsuit with a cape!)

When we left they had an unofficial pond-skimming setup that all sorts of folks hit, including my bud Aaron, who just about ran into this little kid who got stuck at the end of the pool due to a lack of speed.

Park City locals came out by the masses, even if not to ski, but to hang out with food on their tailgates and lawn chairs. Nobody wanted to miss out on the last day of riding Park City had to offer.

At the end of the day, all the riders in Pick-N-Shovel hit the jump and “boxes of death”, one right after another, sort of a fireworks grand-finale style approach to the last run of the season. People sure go all out for this.

Overall we had an epic time, saw some big moves go down, threw down ourselves, and saw some extravagant outfits as we enjoyed the sunny day God blessed Park City with.

Some might classify all the outfits, pond-skimming, tailgate parties, and music as a little too much or a little unreasonable. Websters defines unreasonable as exceeding the bounds of reason or moderation. Unreasonable takes us away from our safe and predictable lives to a life filled with risk and the unexpected. A life that is over the top. Outside the box. More than we can imagine. I don’t know about any of you, but I’m pretty excited about knowing a God who goes past the normal bounds of reason and moderation. I celebrate a God who invites us to live extravagant, exhilarating, and unreasonable lives.

Watch this 30 second video on the topic: Unreasonable

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

“May the Lord smile upon you!” Numbers 6:25

“You have made known to me the path of life, you will fill me with joy and eternal pleasures in Your presence.” Psalms 16:11

“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
